Neurofeedback is a non-invasive therapeutic technique that helps individuals regulate their brain activity. By providing real-time feedback on brainwave patterns, it aims to train the brain to function more efficiently. This method is based on the principles of neuroplasticity, which is the brain's ability to adapt and change.
During a neurofeedback session, electrodes are placed on the scalp to monitor brain activity. As the brain activity is monitored in real-time, feedback is displayed to the person on a screen in visual form. For example, a person may watch a video or play a game; when their brainwaves shift toward the desired pattern (based on form, morphology, and frequency), the person receives a "reward" in the video/game. This method reinforces healthy brainwave patterns. Over time, the brain learns to maintain these healthy patterns independently, leading to lasting improvements in symptoms and functioning.
